ABOUT THE FOUNDER

Annie Leffingwell O'Keeffe is a visual artist, newly wed and currently attending nursing school in New York City.
Born in Chicago in 1973, she grew up in Kansas City and traveled every summer to California, Arizona and numerous road trips where she brought her hula hoop to every state of the Union.  Her hips began swirling again in the dawn of the 2nd millennium after a trip to Black Rock   City, Nevada where a hula hooper fell madly in love with her spirit.

Back in the Big Apple befriending Groove Hoopers, she learned tricks then taught them and performed in front of Governor Pataki, Snoop Dogg and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Her love of the hoop brought her an idea that peace could be found in the same way Sufis swirl for harmony with the universe.  Annie hopes to bring this peace to a global level.  She spent four months of 2005 traveling through Russia, the Alps, France, Scandinavia and the British Isles talking about World Hoop Day.

Integrating her passions for dance, peace and encircling the earth, she created a day for the whole world to feel happy about hooping for health.
HOOPS WITH A VISION

World Hoop Day brings smiles to children's faces around the world.  By providing quality hula hoops and instruction, we encourage active and healthy lifestyle choices.
World Hoop Day ambassadors distribute hula hoops and hoop- instruction to children of diverse cultural backgrounds, focusing on children living in poverty.  Hula hoops give these children the opportunity to experiment, play, use their imaginations, and develop ideas.
We ran an international World Hoop Day event on 7-7-7 (July 7, 2007), with group-hooping in many major cities and countries.  World Hoop Day events will occur on 8-8-8, 9-9-9, 10-10-10, 11-11-11, and 12-12-12.
Our vision is to engage hula hoopers - children and adults alike - on every continent, in every major city, by 12-12-12.
We need your help to continue this amazing project!
